Human rights and equality in Pentecostal community’s Midsummer Conference 2027! Follow us on Instagram.

What is Tarramissio?

Tarramissio is a movement rooted in Pentecostalism that uses sticker activism to raise awareness of human rights issues affecting the Pentecostal community.

Tarramissio is an independent and separate organization from Tarratoimikunta which carried out sticker activism at the SRK Summer Services. Tarratoimikunta is an important source of inspiration and a big sister to Tarramissio. Their work laid the foundation for the emergence of this new movement.

Who are we?

We at Tarramissio come from the Pentecostal movement and other charismatic communities within its sphere of influence.

We, the people behind Tarramissio, want to make the community we grew up in a safer space for everyone to belong, grow and practice their faith, a community where human rights are genuinely upheld.

What can you expect?

Through our work, we want to make the human rights issues that matter to us more visible. That is why we are bringing our stickers to the 2027 Midsummer Conference. The stickers address these issues with gentle determination and invite conference attendees into important conversations.

On this account, we will share information about our work and our stickers, as well as raise awareness of the issues we address. So stay tuned!

Why Tarramissio?

Tarramissio was born out of a deep and urgent need to raise concerns about the human rights situation within the Pentecostal movement. Our mission is to spark discussion around issues affecting the community we grew up in, including

  1. Discriminatory teachings targeting sexual minorities and the use of harmful conversion practices. Conversion practices refer to practices that attempt to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity. Research has shown that conversion practices cause psychological distress and are seriously damaging to a person’s health.
  2. Erasing the existence of gender minorities and attitudes towards gender-affirming care that contradict scientific evidence. Transgender and non-binary people are treated in dehumanizing ways, and their identities are misrepresented, for example, as “mental disorders” or “confusion.”
  3. Purity culture and teachings that oppose sexual rights. For example, treating premarital sex and masturbation as sinful violates an individual’s bodily and sexual autonomy, and maintains shame around sexuality. Various teachings found within the community are not consistent with evidence-based sex education in schools.
  4. Spiritual abuse. In close-knit religious communities, the abuse of power can involve, for example, intimidation, guilt-tripping, and coercion. Spiritual abuse is a complex and difficult-to-recognize phenomenon that can have harmful effects on a person’s health.
  5. Christian Zionism. The interpretation of Israel as playing a key role in God’s plan of salvation has led to uncritical support for the State of Israel and the erasure of Palestinian existence. Support for Israel consciously ignores the genocide committed by Israel, as well as the human rights violations against Palestinian people.

What are we committed to?

Tarramissio’s principles.

Nonviolence

The operation of Tarramissio is based on absolute nonviolence and respect for people’s boundaries. We have zero tolerance for harassment of any kind. Aggressive behaviour is not aligned with our principles, and we advise everyone in our network to act calm even in provocative situations.

Peacefulness

We come to Midsummer Conference with peaceful intentions and commit to general rules of procedure and safety. We wish a safe and enjoyable event for everyone, and our intent is not to stir up any kind of hate or public disturbance.

We respect private property and Iso Kirja’s structures and will not put stickers on them. We are committed to clean any possible mess caused by applying stickers and to compensate for any equipment damage when required by law.

Researched information

We base our critique on scientific and current researched information. On the topic of Israel and Palestine we rely on information accepted by international organizations and international law. Tarramissio is an independent movement that does not represent any political party.

We will not make official theological statements, and our intent is not to engage in theological debates. However, we wish to spark these conversations within the Pentecostal community.

Love

We do not act from hate or revenge, but from love for the community we grew up in. With our stickers we wish to show compassion especially for those whom Midsummer Conference can be a difficult and lonely place to be.

We are doing this, because many of us would have needed the same kind of support ourselves. There are lots of Midsummer Conference guests belonging to sexual and gender minorities, and those carrying experiences of spiritual violence.

Tarramissio does historic human rights work in Pentecostal community’s Midsummer Conference by distributing stickers that call for sexual rights, make visible themes of spiritual violence, and raise issues in Christian support for Israel. This is organized by volunteers.

To succeed in our mission, we need to cover the costs of printing stickers and mailing them. To get to Keuruu with our stickers, our work also contains some travel and accommodation expenses, and possibly other unexpected costs.

Dear donor, we need your help to cover these expenses essential for our movement!

Donating money is an excellent way to take part in our valuable work for human rights. With your preferred donation amount, you can directly help us to fulfil our mission. Every donation matters!
